PAGASA monitors tropical cyclone outside PAR

PAGASA is monitoring a tropical cyclone outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility.

At 3 p.m. Saturday, the tropical depression was spotted 900 kilometers southwest of southwestern Luzon, with maximum sustained winds of 55 km/h and gustiness of up to 75 km/h.

The weather disturbance was moving east northeastward at 15 km/h.

Should it enter the PAR, it will be referred to by its local name, Romina.

In the next 24 hours, CALABARZON, Bicol Region, Visayas, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Dinagat Islands will have cloudy skies with scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms due to the shear line.

Zamboanga Peninsula, Palawan, Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi will experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms because of the trough of the tropical depression, which will also affect the rest of Mindanao.

Cloudy skies with rains will prevail over Metro Manila, Cagayan Valley, the Cordillera Administrative Region, and Central Luzon, while the rest of Luzon will see partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains due to the Northeast Monsoon (Amihan).

The eastern section of Southern Luzon will experience strong winds and rough coastal waters.

Visayas, the rest of Luzon, and the northeastern section of Mindanao will expect moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough coastal waters.

The rest of Mindanao will have light to moderate winds and slight to moderate coastal waters.

Sunrise in Metro Manila will be at 6:16 a.m. on Sunday. — Jiselle Anne Casucian/VBL, GMA Integrated News
