TD Querubin weakens to LPA

Tropical Depression Querubin has weakened into a low pressure area (LPA), but may still regain strength in the coming hours, state weather bureau PAGASA said.

According to PAGASA's weather advisory at 5 p.m. Wednesday, the tropical cyclone weakened to an LPA at 2 p.m., lifting all prevailing wind signals earlier. A shear line, however, also affect parts of the country.

"At 2:00 p.m. today, Tropical Depression Querubin weakened into a LPA and has a medium chance of redevelopment into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours," said PAGASA.

As of 3 p.m., the LPA (formerly Querubin) was last seen 220 kms. east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur or 275 kms. east of Surigao City, Surigao del Norte.

The LPA will bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over eastern Visayas, Caraga, and Davao Region.

The rest of Visayas and Mindanao will experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the trough of the LPA.

Cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms will likewise prevail over Bicol Region, Quezon, Marinduque, Romblon, and Oriental Mindoro due to the shear line.

Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon (Amihan) will bring cloudy skies with light rains over Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, and Aurora, as well as partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains over Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon. — Sundy Locus/ VDV, GMA Integrated News
