LPA off Mindanao now Tropical Depression Querubin

LPA off Mindanao now Tropical Depression Querubin

The low pressure area off the coast of Mindanao has developed into Tropical Depression Querubin, according to the state weather bureau PAGASA on Tuesday afternoon.

At 2 p.m., Querubin was located 215 kilometers east southeast of Davao International Airport, carrying winds of 45 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 55 km/h.

It was moving south southwestward slowly.

Querubin is the 17th tropical cyclone to form inside or enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility this year.

In its forecast, PAGASA said Querubin would bring rains with gusty winds over Davao Oriental within the next 24 hours.

Moderate to heavy with at times intense rains from Querubin may trigger flash floods or landslides.

''Minimal to minor threat to lives and properties due to strong winds,'' PAGASA said.

Querubin will also cause cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over Eastern Visayas, Caraga, and the rest of Davao Region.

Meanwhile, the rest of Visayas and of Mindanao will experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the trough of Querubin.

Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, and Aurora will see cloudy skies with rains due to the Northeast Monsoon (Amihan).

Residents of the affected areas were warned of possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to at times heavy rains.

The Amihan will also cause partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains over Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon, though these weather conditions are not expected to have a significant impact.

Winds will be moderate to strong while coastal waters will be moderate to rough in the northern and eastern sections of the country and the western section of Northern Luzon.

The rest of the country will experience light to moderate winds and slight to moderate coastal water conditions.

Sunrise in Metro Manila will be at 6:14 a.m. on Wednesday. — Mariel Celine Serquiña/VBL, GMA Integrated News
