ITCZ, shear line, Amihan to bring rain to Luzon, west Mindanao

The Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), a shear line, and the Northeast  Monsoon (Amihan) will continue to affect weather conditions over Luzon,  Palawan, and Western Mindanao in the next 24 hours, the Philippine  Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration  (PAGASA) reported Monday afternoon.

Metro Manila, CALABARZON, the Bicol Region, Marinduque, Oriental Mindoro, and Aurora will experience cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and isolated thunderstorms caused by the shear line.

PAGASA warned of possible flash floods and landslides in these areas due to moderate to heavy rainfall.

The ITCZ will meanwhile bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms to the Zamboanga  Peninsula, Basilan, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, and Palawan.

Residents in these areas should also remain vigilant against potential flash floods and landslides.

The Amihan will bring cloudy skies with rains over the Cagayan Valley, Apayao, Kalinga, Mountain  Province, and Ifugao.

Moderate to occasionally heavy rainfall in these areas may also trigger flash floods or landslides.

The  Ilocos Region, the rest of the Cordillera Administrative Region, and  Central Luzon will also feel the effects of the Amihan, though with lighter rains.

For the rest of the country, partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms are expected due to localized weather systems.

Severe thunderstorms in these areas could still lead to flash floods or landslides.

Winds would be strong to gale force, with coastal waters to be rough to very rough, across Northern Luzon and the eastern sections of Central and Southern Luzon.

The eastern section of the Visayas and the rest of Luzon will experience moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough coastal water conditions.

Meanwhile, Mindanao and the rest of Visayas will see light to moderate winds and slight to moderate coastal water conditions. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
