ITCZ, shear line to bring heavy rains over several areas

The Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) affecting Mindanao and the shear line affecting the eastern sections of Central and Southern Luzon will bring rains on Monday, PAGASA said in its forecast.

The Bicol Region, Marinduque, Romblon, Oriental Mindoro, Batangas, Laguna, Rizal, Quezon, and Aurora will have cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the shear line. Flash floods or landslides may result due to moderate to heavy rains.

Visayas, Mindanao, and Palawan may expect cloudy skies with scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms due to the ITCZ. Moderate to at times heavy rains may possibly result in flash floods or landslides.

In its 5 a.m. weather advisory, PAGASA said the following areas will have moderate to heavy rains measuring up to 50-100 mm due to the ITCZ and shear line:

  • Quezon
  • Aurora
  • Camarines Norte
  • Camarines Sur
  • Catanduanes
  • Albay
  • Sorsogon
  • Marinduque
  • Oriental Mindoro
  • Palawan
  • Northern Samar
  • Eastern Samar
  • Dinagat Islands

On Tuesday, the following areas may experience moderate to heavy rains measuring from 50 to 100 mm: Isabela, Aurora, Quezon, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, and Catanduanes.

On Wednesday, these areas will have moderate to heavy rains (50-100 mm): Cagayan, Isabela, Aurora, and Quezon.

Meanwhile, the Northeast Monsoon (Amihan) is affecting Northern Luzon on Monday.

Cagayan Valley and Cordillera Administrative Region will have cloudy skies with rains due to the monsoon. Flash floods or landslides may possibly result from moderate to at times heavy rains.

The Ilocos Region and the rest of Central Luzon may experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains due to the Amihan.

Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon on the other hand will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms. During severe thunderstorms, flash floods or landslides may possibly occur.

Coastal waters will be rough to very rough in Northern Luzon and the eastern sections of Central and Southern Luzon.

The rest of Luzon will have moderate to rough coastal waters, while these will be slight to moderate in Visayas and Mindanao.
