PAGASA to delist Aghon, Kristine from cyclone names; Carina also a candidate
State weather bureau PAGASA on Monday said Aghon and Kristine will be removed from the list of tropical cyclones in the country due to their extreme damage to people and property.
As for Carina, PAGASA climate monitoring and prediction section chief Ana Liza Solis said the agency needs to validate first the extent of damage due to the said cyclone before delisting it.
"Kristine and Aghon (will be delisted). Need to validate pa si Carina since it was coincided with enhanced Habagat. Baka sa January 2025 magpalabas ng official ang PAGASA," Solis told GMA News Online in a message.
(Kristine and Aghon will be delisted. We still need to validate Carina since it coincided with enhanced Habagat. Maybe in January 2025, PAGASA will release an official announcement.)
PAGASA decommissions a domestic tropical cyclone name if it kills at least 300 people or causes damage to houses, agriculture, and infrastructure amounting to at least P1 billion.
Replacement names will be produced and they will be used every four years.

Carina and Butchoy's impact reportedly killed 48 people and caused P5,982,229,416 worth of damage to infrastructure and P2,155,329,901 to agriculture, the NDRRMC said as of August 26.
Meanwhile, Aghon’s onslaught led to six reported fatalities as well as damage worth P942,546,193 to infrastructure and P85,627,965 to agriculture, according to the NDRRMC as of June 6.
