At 4 p.m., Nika was observed in the vicinity of Hungduan, Ifugao moving west northwestward at 25 kph.
“A generally weakening trend may then be expected for this tropical cyclone until it becomes a remnant low over the sea near southern China,” PAGASA said.
PAGASA also warned of strong to gale-force gusts over the coastal and upland areas of Batanes, Bataan, Cavite, Batangas, Lubang Island, Marinduque, Romblon, Masbate, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, and Catanduanes on Tuesday due to northeasterly wind flow.
A moderate to high risk of storm surge may also occur in the next 48 hours in the low-lying or exposed coastal localities of Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, Isabela, Zambales, and Aurora.
A Gale Warning is hoisted over the eastern seaboard of Luzon and the northern and western seaboards of Northern Luzon.
PAGASA said Nika will traverse the landmass of mainland Luzon on Monday and emerge over the sea west of Ilocos Sur on Monday evening.
It will then move west northwestward over the West Philippine Sea and exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility by tomorrow. —Mariel Celine Serquiña/RF, GMA Integrated News
