PAGASA: Marce has Signal No. 4 raised over parts of north Luzon

Five areas are now under signal no. 4 as Typhoon Marce continues to cause life-threatening conditions over the northern portions of Cagayan, Apayao, and Ilocos Norte.

According to PAGASA’s 11 p.m. cyclone bulletin, Marce was last seen moving westward at 20 kph in the vicinity of Claveria, Cagayan with maximum sustained winds of 175 kph and gustiness of up to 290 kph.

Marce had made its second landfall over Sanchez-Mira, Cagayan at around 9 p.m. and is predicted to make another landfall along the coast of northwestern mainland Cagayan within Thursday evening.

The following areas under signal no. 4 may experience winds of 118 kph up to 184 kph within 12 hours:

  • The northern portion of Cagayan (Lal-Lo, Buguey, Aparri, Camalaniugan, Ballesteros, Allacapan, Abulug, Pamplona, Sanchez-Mira, Claveria, Santa Praxedes, Lasam, Santa Teresita, Gonzaga, Santa Ana) including Babuyan Islands (Fuga Is., Dalupiri Is., Babuyan Is., Camiguin Is.)
  • The northern portion of Apayao (Santa Marcela, Luna, Flora, Calanasan, Pudtol, Kabugao)
  • The northernmost portion of Abra (Tineg)
  • Ilocos Norte
  • The northernmost portion of Ilocos Sur (Sinait)

The following areas under signal no. 3 may observe winds of 89 to 117 kph over the next 18 hours:

  • Batanes (Mahatao, Uyugan, Basco, Ivana, Sabtang)
  • The rest of Babuyan Islands
  • The rest of Cagayan
  • The rest of Apayao, the northern portion of Kalinga (Balbalan, Pinukpuk)
  • The northern portion of Abra (Danglas, Lagayan, Lacub, San Juan, La Paz, Bangued, Langiden, San Quintin, Pidigan, Malibcong, Peñarrubia, Bucay, Licuan-Baay, Lagangilang, Dolores, Tayum, Sallapadan, Daguioman, Bucloc, San Isidro)
  • The northern portion of Ilocos Sur (Cabugao, San Juan, Magsingal, Santo Domingo, San Vicente, Santa Catalina, Bantay, San Ildefonso, City of Vigan, Caoayan, Santa, Narvacan, Nagbukel)

For the following areas under signal no. 2, winds of 62 kph up to 88 kph may be observed in at least 24 hours:

  • The rest of Batanes
  • The northern and central portions of Isabela (San Pablo, Santa Maria, Divilacan, Tumauini, Maconacon, Cabagan, Santo Tomas, Quezon, Palanan, Ilagan City, Mallig, Delfin Albano, Quirino, San Mariano, Gamu, Roxas, Naguilian, Burgos, Reina Mercedes, Benito Soliven, Luna, Aurora, San Manuel, San Mateo, Alicia, Angadanan, City of Cauayan, Cabatuan)
  • The rest of Abra
  • The rest of Kalinga
  • Mountain Province
  • The northern portion of Ifugao (Alfonso Lista, Aguinaldo, Mayoyao, Banaue, Hungduan)
  • The northern portion of Benguet (Bakun, Mankayan)
  • The rest of Ilocos Sur
  • The northern portion of La Union (Sudipen, Bangar, Balaoan, Luna, Santol, Bacnotan)
  • Lastly, the following areas under signal no. 1 may expect winds of 39 kph to 61 kph or intermittent rains over the next 36 hours:
  • The rest of La Union
  • Pangasinan
  • The rest of Ifugao
  • The rest of Benguet
  • The rest of Isabela
  • Quirino
  • Nueva Vizcaya
  • The northern and central portions of Aurora (Dilasag, Casiguran, Dinalungan, Dipaculao)
  • The northern portion of Nueva Ecija (Carranglan)
  • The northern portion of Zambales (Santa Cruz, Candelaria)

The following are under Signal No. 1: 

  • The rest of La Union, Pangasinan,
  • the rest of Ifugao,
  • the rest of Benguet,
  • the rest of Isabela,
  • Quirino,
  • Nueva Vizcaya,
  • the northern and central portions of Aurora (Dilasag, Casiguran, Dinalungan, Dipaculao),
  • the northern portion of Nueva Ecija (Carranglan), and
  • the northern portion of Zambales (Santa Cruz, Candelaria).

PAGASA warned residents in the Babuyan Islands and the northern portions of mainland Cagayan, Ilocos Norte, and Apayao of continued life-threatening conditions brought by typhoon-force winds, storm surge inundation, and torrential rainfall.

While Marce will remain a typhoon throughout its passage within the Philippine Area of Responsibility, the state weather bureau does not rule out the possibility of fevelopment into a Super Typhoon.

Marce is predicted to exit the PAR by Friday afternoon or evening. —NB, GMA Integrated News
