LPA expected to enter PAR; trough to bring rains over parts of Luzon
A low pressure area (LPA) located east of Southern Luzon is expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Sunday. Its trough will bring rains over parts of Luzon, PAGASA said.
At 3 a.m., the LPA was located at 1,395 km east of Southern Luzon, still outside PAR.
"Mataas ang tsansa nito na ma-develop at maging isang ganap na bagyo within the next 24 hours," PAGASA weather specialist Grace Castañeda said in the 4 a.m. public weather forecast.
(It has a high chance of developing into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours.)
Once the LPA intensifies into a tropical depression, it will be named Kristine.
The weather disturbance may possibly get near the eastern part of Northern and Central Luzon. It may also possibly make landfall in the Northern and Central Luzon area, but the track and scenario may still change, Castañeda said.
For now, the LPA has no direct effect yet on the country on Sunday morning, but its trough will bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over Cagayan, Isabela, Aurora, and Quezon. Flash floods or landslides may result due to moderate to at times heavy rains.
On Monday and Tuesday, the trough will most likely bring rains over the eastern part of Southern Luzon and a big part of Visayas. Then on Wednesday, rains may be expected over most parts of Luzon and Visayas.
Zamboanga Peninsula, BARMM, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani, and Palawan will have cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms on Sunday due to the Intertropical Convergence Zone. Moderate to at times heavy rains may possibly result in flash floods or landslides.
Eastern Visayas and Bicol Region may expect partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms on Sunday due to the trough of the LPA. During severe thunderstorms, flash floods or landslides may occur.
Metro Manila and the rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms on Sunday due to localized thunderstorms. Flash floods or landslides may result during severe thunderstorms.
Coastal waters will be moderate to rough in the seaboards of Northern and Central Luzon, and slight to moderate in the rest of the country.
