Julian moves further toward southwest Taiwan

Tropical Storm Julian continues to move slowly in the east northeast direction over Southwestern Taiwan and will not directly affect the country.

According to PAGASA’s 11 p.m. cyclone bulletin on Thursday, Julian has rapidly weakened into a tropical storm, and is moving east northeastward at 10 kph over Southwestern Taiwan.

Julian was last observed at 240 kilometers North Northwest of Itbayat, Batanes packing maximum winds of 75 kilometers per hour, gustiness of up to 90 kph, and central pressure of 1004 hPa.

Julian is moving northeastward slowly with strong to gale-force winds extend outwards up to 240 km from the center.

There are currently no wind signals or rain hazards caused by the tropical storm, but the following seaboards may see moderate to rough seas over the next 24 hours:

the seaboards of Batanes, Babuyan Islands, and Ilocos Norte

the remaining seaboards of Ilocos Region and the seaboard of Zambales

the northern seaboard of mainland Cagayan, the seaboard of Bataan, the western seaboard of Lubang Island, the western seaboard of Calamian Islands, the western seaboard of northern mainland Palawan, and the seaboard of Kalayaan Islands

"Tropical Storm Julian is forecast to gradually turn southwestward over the landmass of Taiwan while rapidly weakening. Due to increasingly unfavorable conditions, it may become a remnant low over southwestern Taiwan or the sea southwest of Taiwan tomorrow (4 October) morning," PAGASA reported. — BAP, GMA Integrated News
