PAGASA Julian Signal No. 1 Batanes, Babuyan Islands

Signal No. 1 remains raised over Batanes and Babuyan Islands as Typhoon Julian continues to weaken as it moves northeastward towards Taiwan.

According to PAGASA’s 11 p.m. cyclone bulletin, Julian was last seen at 270 kilometers west northwest of Itbayat, Batanes and outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility.

It had maximum sustained winds of 155 kph near the center, gustiness of up to 190 kph, and central pressure of 955 hPa

The areas under Signal No. 1 may observe winds of 39 to 61 kph in their area or intermittent rains over the next 36 hours.

Meanwhile, a gale warning is raised over the northern seaboard of Northern Luzon, while the seaboards of Batanes and Babuyan Islands may experience rough sea conditions over the next 24 hours.

  • the seaboard of Ilocos Norte
  • the remaining seaboards of Ilocos Region
  • the seaboard of Zambales
  • the seaboard of mainland Cagayan, the western seaboard of Lubang Island, the western seaboard of Calamian Islands, and the seaboard of Kalayaan Islands

Julian is anticipated to re-enter the PAR on Thursday morning and make a landfall near the southwestern coast of Taiwan without directly affecting any other area but Batanes.

The typhoon continues to weaken and may be downgraded into a tropical depression by Friday evening.
