PAGASA: Signal No. 1 over parts of N. Luzon, Cagayan
Signal No. 1 has been raised over parts of Northern Luzon and Cagayan Valley as Super Typhoon Julian maintained its strength outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility.
According to PAGASA’s 5 p.m. cyclone bulletin, the following areas under Signal No. 1 may expect winds of 39 to 61 kph or intermittent rains over the next 36 hours:
- Ilocos Norte
- Ilocos Sur
- La Union
- The northern and western portions of Pangasinan (Lingayen, City of Alaminos, Anda, San Fabian, Mangaldan, Burgos, Dagupan City, Bolinao, Sual, Labrador, Bani, Pozorrubio, Mabini, Binmaley, San Jacinto, Bugallon, Infanta, Agno, Calasiao, Dasol, Sison)
- Apayao
- Abra
- Kalinga
- Mountain Province
- Ifugao
- Benguet
- Batanes
- Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, the northern and western portions of Isabela (Cabagan, Tumauini, Ilagan City, Santo Tomas, Delfin Albano, Alicia, San Mateo, Aurora, Quezon, Ramon, Naguilian, Roxas, Luna, City of Cauayan, Angadanan, City of Santiago, Reina Mercedes, San Manuel, Cabatuan, Quirino, Gamu, San Isidro, Mallig, Cordon, Burgos, Maconacon, San Pablo, Santa Maria, Benito Soliven)
- The northwestern portion of Nueva Vizcaya (Diadi, Bagabag, Quezon, Solano, Villaverde, Ambaguio, Bayombong, Bambang, Kayapa)
As of 5 p.m., Super Typhoon Julian was spotted 245 kilometers west of Itbayat, Batanes, and outside of the PAR.
It was moving north-northwestward slowly with maximum sustained winds of 195 kph and gustiness of up to 240 kph.
A weather advisory issued on Tuesday afternoon forecasted heavy rainfall over some parts of the country due to the effects of the Super Typhoon:
Tuesday to Wednesday noon
- Heavy to Intense rains (100 to 200 mm): Batanes, Babuyan Islands, and Ilocos Norte
- Moderate to Heavy rains (50 to 100 mm): Mainland Cagayan, Cordillera Administrative Region, and the rest of Ilocos Region
Wednesday noon to Thursday noon
- Heavy to Intense rains (100 to 200 mm): Batanes and Babuyan Islands
- Moderate to Heavy rains (50 to 100 mm): Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur
PAGASA warned that flooding and landslides are likely to occur over the following areas and advised concerned offices to remain vigilant.
Meanwhile, strong to gale-force gusts may be expected in the following areas:
- Tuesday: Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, the northern and eastern portions of mainland Cagayan, the eastern portion of Isabela, and Zambales
- Wednesday: Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Abra, Apayao, Batanes, Babuyan Islands, the northern and eastern portions of mainland Cagayan, and the eastern portion of Isabela
- Thursday: Batanes and Babuyan Islands
While a gale warning has also been raised over the northern seaboard of Northern Luzon, the following areas may experience moderate to rough sea conditions over the next 24 hours:
Very rough seas: Batanes, Babuyan Islands and Ilocos Norte
Moderate to rough seas: Ilocos Sur, Ilocos Region, Mainland Cagayan, Zambales, Isabela, northern Aurora
Julian may still continue to intensify over the next 12 hours, but is predicted to weaken upon interaction with the mountainous terrain of Taiwan and downgrade to a severe tropical storm by Thursday.
It is predicted to officially exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Thursday evening or Friday early morning.
Julian, easterlies cause rainy skies over parts of PH
The effects of Julian continue to affect parts of Northern Luzon, bringing rains with gusty winds in Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Batanes, and Cagayan, while the trough of the super typhoon will cause cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over Central Luzon and the rest of Cagayan Valley.
The easterlies will bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over Davao Region, SOCCSKSARGEN, and BARMM.
The rest of the country will be having partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms caused by localized thunderstorms.
Possible flash floods or landslides may occur in some areas due to said weather conditions.
Meanwhile, strong winds with rough waters may be observed over Northern Luzon.
Central Luzon and the eastern section of Southern Luzon will have moderate to strong winds with moderate to rough waters, while the rest of the country will have light to moderate winds with slight to moderate coastal waters.
