Julian maintains strength over Luzon Strait; Signal No. 3 in Batanes

Typhoon Julian has maintained its strength as it moved westward over the Luzon Strait.

According to PAGASA's 11 p.m. tropical cyclone bulletin on Monday, Signal No. 3 has been hoisted over Batanes and the northeastern part of Babuyan Islands.

Signal No. 2 is raised in the Babuyan Islands, Ilocos Norte, the northern portion of Apayao (Calanasan, Luna), and the northwestern portion of mainland Cagayan (Santa Praxedes, Claveria, Sanchez-Mira, Abulug, Pamplona).

Signal No. 1 is up over Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, the rest of Apayao, Kalinga, Abra, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Benguet, the rest of mainland Cagayan, Isabela, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, the northern portion of Aurora (Dilasag, Casiguran, Dinalungan), and the northern portion of Nueva Ecija (Carranglan, Lupao, Pantabangan).

At 10 p.m., the center of the eye of Typhoon Julian was estimated based on all available data 155 km West Southwest of Itbayat, Batanes.

It had maximum sustained winds of 175 kph near the center, gustiness of up to 215 kph, and central pressure of 935 hPa.

Julian was moving westward at 15 kph.

Strong to typhoon-force winds extended outwards up to 560 km from the center. —NB, GMA Integrated News
