Yellow rainfall warning up over Batanes due to Habagat

A yellow rainfall warning was raised over Batanes at 11 a.m. due to the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat on Saturday.

This means heavy rains of 7.5 up to 15mm will be felt in one hour and may continue in the next two hours.

PAGASA warned residents in the area of possible flooding and landslides in flood-prone and landslide-prone areas.

Meanwhile, moderate to heavy rains are being experienced in Cagayan (Calayan) which may persist within two to three hours and may affect nearby areas.

PAGASA added that light to moderate rains are also expected over the rest of Babuyan Group of Islands, portions of mainland Cagayan, portions of Apayao, portions of Ilocos Norte, portions of Ilocos Sur and portions of La Union within the next one to two hours.

The state weather bureau advised the public and the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices concerned to monitor the weather condition and watch for the next warning to be issued at 2p.m. on Saturday.

"All are advised to take precautionary measures against the impacts associated with these hazards. Residents along mountain slope are advised for possible landslides mudslides, rockslides and flash flood," PAGASA said.

Tropical Depression Igme left the Philippine Area of Responsibility on early Saturday morning, but the enhanced Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) will bring rains, PAGASA said. —Jamil Santos/ VAL, GMA Integrated News
