Batanes under Signal No. 1 due to Igme

Batanes under Signal No. 1 due to Igme

PAGASA has raised Signal No. 1 over Batanes as Tropical Depression Igme moves northwestward, according to the state weather bureau's 5 p.m. Friday bulletin.

As of 4 p.m., Igme was located 530 kilometers east northeast of Itbayat, Batanes, with maximum sustained winds of 55 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 70 km/h.

Traveling at a speed of 15 km/h, Igme was forecast to move generally west northwestward until Sunday morning before turning north northeastward.

''On the forecast track, a landfall and passage over Taiwan area is not ruled out. Igme may exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Sunday,'' PAGASA said.

It will likely remain a tropical depression and may gradually weaken into a low pressure area by early Monday morning, the weather bureau added.

During the weekend, the following areas will experience rainy conditions:

Friday to Saturday noon:

  • Moderate to heavy rains: Ilocos Region, Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Zambales, and Bataan

Saturday noon to Sunday noon:

  • Heavy to intense rains: Batanes
  • Moderate to heavy rains: Cagayan, including Babuyan Islands

PAGASA warned that flooding and landslides are likely to occur and advised concerned offices to remain vigilant.

The Southwest Monsoon (Habagat), enhanced by Igme, will also bring strong to gale-force gusts over the following areas:

  • Friday: Ilocos Region, Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Zambales, and Bataan
  • Saturday: Ilocos Region, Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Zambales, and Bataan
  • Sunday: Ilocos Region, Batanes, Babuyan Islands, and Zambales

The seaboards of Northern and Central Luzon and the western seaboard of Southern Luzon may expect moderate to rough sea conditions over the next 24 hours, while the remaining seaboards of the country will have moderate seas.

In the next 24 hours, the Southwest Monsoon will bring monsoon rains over Zambales and occasional rains over the Ilocos Region, Bataan, and Babuyan Islands.

It will also cause cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over Metro Manila, the rest of Luzon, Western Visayas, Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, and Samar, and partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms over the rest of Visayas.

Mindanao will see partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms. —Jiselle Anne Casucian/VBL, GMA Integrated News
