Yellow rainfall warning up over Babuyan Group of Islands due to Gener


A yellow rainfall warning was raised over the Babuyan Group of Islands at 8 a.m. Tuesday.

This means heavy rains measuring from 7.5 to 15mm will be felt in one hour and may continue in the next two hours due to Tropical Depression Gener.

PAGASA said residents living in the area need to be alert for possible flooding and landslides in areas prone to these hazards.

Meanwhile, light to moderate to at times heavy rains are affecting the following areas as of posting time:

  • Cagayan
  • portions of Isabela
  • portions of Nueva Vizcaya
  • portions of Quirino
  • Mountain Province
  • Kalinga
  • Ifugao
  • Northern Aurora
  • Abra
  • portions of Ilocos Norte
  • portions of Benguet

 

Rains may persist within the next two to three hours in the above-mentioned areas.

Light to moderate rains are to be expected on the other hand in the following areas, and such may persist within two to three hours and affect nearby areas:

  • Ilocos Sur
  • La Union
  • Pangasinan
  • rest of Ilocos Norte
  • rest of Quirino
  • rest of Nueva Vizcaya
  • rest of Isabela
  • portions of Apayao
  • rest of Benguet
  • Batanes

 

PAGASA advised the public and disaster risk reduction and management offices concerned to take the necessary precautions and await the next advisory at 11 a.m.

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 was raised on Tuesday at 5 a.m. over 24 areas in Luzon, including Cagayan and the Babuyan Islands.

At 4 a.m., the center of Gener was estimated to be located in the vicinity of Alicia, Isabela packing maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour near the center, gustiness of up to 70 kph, and central pressure of 996 hPa.

Gener is moving westward at a speed of 30 kph with strong winds extending outwards up to 360 km from the center. —KG, GMA Integrated News
