PAGASA: 2 LPAs inside, outside PAR have ‘high chance’ to develop into tropical cyclones

PAGASA: 2 LPAs inside, outside PAR have ‘high chance’ to develop into tropical cyclones

State meteorologists are monitoring two low pressure areas with one of them now being inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

PAGASA weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio said on Monday that the two LPAs have high chances of developing into tropical cyclones

The LPA within PAR was last located 830 kilometers east northeast of Extreme Northern Luzon.

It is expected to move west towards Taiwan and Batanes, said Aurelio.

Meanwhile, the LPA outside the country was at 2,425 kilometers east of Eastern Visayas, and is forecasted to enter PAR by Wednesday or Thursday, if it continues to move north westward, the PAGASA weather speciality said.

If both LPAs became tropical cyclones, they would be named Ferdie and Gener.

On the other hand, the southwest monsoon or habagat would have lesser impact on the country on Tuesday. But PAGASA said rains brought by habagat are expected over the western part of Northern Luzon and Central Luzon.

The country was recently hit by Severe Tropical Storm Enteng, which reportedly killed 20 people.

The amount of infrastructure damaged due to Enteng and habagat have so far soared to P698.9 million, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said.
