Southwest Monsoon to bring rains over Luzon

The Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) continues to affect Luzon on Monday and will bring rains, PAGASA said in its weather forecast.

Ilocos Region, Apayao, and Abra will have occasional rains due to the monsoon. Flooding or landslides may result due to moderate to heavy rains.

Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, and the rest of Cordillera Administrative Region may expect cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the Southwest Monsoon. Moderate to at times heavy rains may possibly lead to flooding or landslides.

Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, and Bicol Region will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the monsoon. Flash floods or landslides may possibly occur during severe thunderstorms.

The rest of the country meanwhile will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms. During severe thunderstorms, flash floods or landslides may possibly result.

2 LPAs

PAGASA is also monitoring two Low Pressure Areas (LPAs).

One was estimated to be located at 3 a.m. at 1,155 km east northeast of Extreme Northern Luzon.

"Hindi natin inaalis 'yung posibilidad na ito (LPA east northeast of extreme Northern Luzon) ay maging bagyo," PAGASA weather specialist Obet Badrina said in an interview on Super Radyo dzBB.

(We are not discounting the possibility that it may develop into a tropical depression.)

This LPA is moving westward and is not expected to make landfall, according to a report by Anjo Pertierra on Unang Balita.

The other LPA was last estimated to be located at 2,810 km east of Eastern Visayas, still outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

This may possibly enter PAR but the chance of it making landfall is low, Pertierra reported.

"Wala pa itong epekto sa bansa," Badrina said.

(It has no effect yet on the country.)

Coastal waters will be slight to moderate throughout the country.
