Southwest Monsoon to bring rains over Luzon

The Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) is affecting Luzon on Sunday and will bring rains, weather bureau PAGASA said in its forecast.

Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Batanes, and Babuyan Islands will have cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the monsoon. Moderate to at times heavy rains may possibly lead to flooding and landslides.

Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon on the other hand may expect partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the Southwest Monsoon. During severe thunderstorms, flash floods or landslides may possibly occur.

The rest of the country meanwhile will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms. During severe thunderstorms, flash floods or landslides may result in areas prone to these hazards.

Coastal waters will be slight to moderate throughout the country.

Sunrise was at 5:45 a.m. Sunset will be at 6:03 p.m.

2 LPAs

PAGASA is also monitoring two low pressure areas (LPAs) outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

One LPA is located near the northeastern boundary of the PAR line.

This LPA may possibly enter PAR in the next few days, according to PAGASA operational weather forecaster Daniel James Villamil in an interview on Super Radyo dzBB on Sunday.

However it may slightly enhance the Southwest Monsoon which may result in rains in the Ilocos Region in the next few days, he said.

The other LPA is still far but may possibly enter PAR later in the week and enhance the Habagat.

"Magdudulot ito ng ulan sa western section ng Visayas at Mindanao," Villamil said.

"Puwedeng lumihis pa, uncertain pa ang track... Low chance ng tropical cyclone development in the next 24 hours," he added.

(It may change track; it is still uncertain.)

In the next five days, Greater Metro Manila may expect "mainit, maalinsangan" (hot and humid) weather, Villamil said.

"Walang masyadong ulan [pero] may localized thunderstorms sa hapon," he added.
