Two potential tropical cyclones may form in coming days - PAGASA

State weather bureau PAGASA is keeping an eye on weather systems that may develop into tropical cyclones in the coming days.

Benison Estareja, a PAGASA weather specialist, said on Thursday that a low pressure area might develop east of Luzon between the weekend and September 9.

Estareja said it is expected that the potential weather disturbance will travel north-northeast and that the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) will only be slightly enhanced.

It will be given a local name, Ferdie, should it develop into a tropical cyclone while inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

Another low pressure area may form southeast of Guam.

According to Estareja, this potential weather disturbance will move into the PAR later next week and possibly strengthen into a tropical cyclone that will be called Gener.

Although it isn't expected to hit any part of the country, it will enhance the Habagat, he added.

Estareja said the forecast track of these potential weather disturbances may still change.

At least 15 people have died due to tropical cyclone Enteng, which pounded portions of Luzon this week with strong winds and torrential rains that affected 1.6 million individuals.

Damage to infrastructure worth P63,454,392 and to agriculture worth P1,231,420 were reported, government data showed. — VBL, GMA Integrated News
