PAGASA: Enteng exits PAR but rains to persist

Severe Tropical Storm Enteng is now outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility but slightly intensified as it slowly moves West Northwestward, state weather bureau PAGASA said.

According to its 5 a.m. tropical cyclone bulletin, heavy rainfall of 50-100 mm is expected in the provinces of Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur.

The enhanced Southwest Monsoon will also bring moderate to intense rainfall in other areas of Luzon over the next three days.

"The wind signals warn the public of the general wind threat over an area due to the tropical cyclone. Local winds may be slightly stronger/enhanced in coastal and upland/mountainous areas exposed to winds. Winds are less strong in areas sheltered from the prevailing wind direction," PAGASA said.

The enhanced Southwest Monsoon will also bring strong to gale-force gusts over the following areas:

September4: Ilocos Region, Abra, Benguet, Isabela Zambales, Bataan, Aurora, Bulacan, Metro Manila, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Bicol Region, Western Visayas, Negros Island, and Northern Samar.

September 5: Ilocos Region, Isabela, Zambales, Bataan, Aurora, Bulacan, Metro Manila, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Bicol Region, Western Visayas, Negros Island, and Northern Samar.

Outside PAR, Enteng will move westward and is forecast to make another landfall in southern mainland China during the weekend.

It is expected to intensify and may become a typhoon within the next 12 hours.  It may also reach its peak by September 6 before making landfall in China, PAGASA added.—LDF, GMA Integrated News
