Signal 2 up over 9 Luzon areas as Enteng intensifies

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 2 was raised over nine north and east Luzon areas as Tropical Storm Enteng intensified further, state weather bureau PAGASA said in a Monday afternoon bulletin.

In its 2 p.m. bulletin, PAGASA said Signal No. 2 was hoisted over:

  • Ilocos Norte
  • Apayao
  • the eastern portion of Kalinga (Rizal, Pinukpuk, City of Tabuk)
  • Cagayan including Babuyan Islands
  • Isabela
  • Quirino
  • the northern portion of Aurora (Casiguran, Dilasag, Dinalungan, Dipaculao, Baler)
  • Polillo Islands
  • the northern portion of Camarines Norte (Santa Elena, Capalonga, Jose Panganiban, Paracale, Vinzons)

Meanwhile, Signal No. 1 was raised over:

  • Batanes
  • Ilocos Sur
  • La Union
  • the eastern portion of Pangasinan (Rosales, Asingan, Binalonan, Sison, San Manuel, Santa Maria, Balungao, San Quintin, Tayug, Umingan, Natividad, San Nicolas)
  • Abra
  • the rest of Kalinga
  • Mountain Province
  • Ifugao
  • Benguet
  • Nueva Vizcaya
  • the rest of Aurora
  • Nueva Ecija
  • the eastern portion of Pampanga (Candaba)

A gale warning was issued over the Luzon seaboard and the southern seaboard of Southern Luzon. Small vessels were advised to refrain from sailing amid the bad weather.

The state weather bureau also said coastal conditions in several parts of the country would be moderate to rough.

Enteng was located over the coastal waters of Casiguran, Aurora heading north-northwestward at 20 km per hour.

It packed maximum sustained winds of 85 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 105 kph.

The state weather bureau said Enteng would make landfall over the northern portion of Aurora (Dilasag-Casiguran) or the southeastern portion of Isabela (Dinapigue) in the next three hours.

“Enteng is forecast to maintain tropical storm category during its traverse of mainland Northern Luzon. Further intensification is forecast to occur from [Tuesday] late evening onwards,” PAGASA said.

Enteng may intensify into a severe tropical storm by Tuesday late evening or Wednesday morning and become a typhoon by Thursday. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
