Signal No. 2 up over 9 Luzon areas as Enteng moves east of Polillo Islands


Tropical Storm Enteng on Monday, September 2, 2024 at 7:40 a.m.

Nine areas in Luzon were placed under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 2 as Tropical Storm Enteng (international name: Yagi) slowly turned towards the east of Polillo Islands on Monday morning, state weather bureau PAGASA said.

In its 8 a.m. bulletin, PAGASA said TCWS Signal No. 2 was raised over the following areas:

  1. the northeastern portion of Camarines Norte (Vinzons, San Lorenzo Ruiz, Talisay, Daet, Labo, Paracale, Jose Panganiban, San Vicente, Basud, Mercedes, Santa Elena, Capalonga);
  2. the northeastern portion of Camarines Sur (Garchitorena, Caramoan, Presentacion, San Jose, Lagonoy, Tinambac, Siruma, Goa);
  3. Cagayan (Pe, Gonzaga, Santa Teresita, Buguey, Lal-Lo, Gattaran, Baggao, Santa Ana, Lasam, Santo Nino, Alcala, Amulung, Solana, Iguig, Tuguegarao City, Enrile, Aparri, Ballesteros, Camalaniugan, Allacapan, Piat, Tuao, Rizal, Abulug, Pamplona) including Babuyan Islands;
  4. the eastern portion of Isabela (Santa Maria, Santo Tomas, Cabagan, Delfin Albano, Quirino, Gamu, Burgos, Luna, Reina Mercedes, City of Cauayan, Alicia, Echague, Jones, San Agustin, Angadanan, San Guillermo, San Pablo, Maconacon, Tumauini, Ilagan City, Palanan, Divilacan, San Mariano, Naguilian, Benito Soliven, Dinapigue, Cabatuan, Aurora, San Manuel, Mallig, Quezon, Roxas);
  5. the northern portion of Aurora (Casiguran, Dilasag, Dinalungan);
  6. Polillo Islands;
  7. the eastern portion of Quirino (Maddela);
  8. the northern portion of Apayao (Luna, Santa Marcela, Flora, Pudtol, Calanasan); and
  9. the eastern portion of Kalinga (Rizal).


Meanwhile, TCWS No. 1 was hoisted over the following areas:

  1. Batanes;
  2. Ilocos Norte;
  3. Ilocos Sur;
  4. the eastern portion of Pangasinan (Rosales, Asingan, Binalonan, Sison, San Manuel, Santa Maria, Balungao, San Quintin, Tayug, Umingan, Natividad, San Nicolas);
  5. Abra;
  6. the rest of Apayao;
  7. the rest of Kalinga;
  8. Mountain Province;
  9. Ifugao;
  10. Benguet;
  11. the rest of Isabela;
  12. the rest of Quirino;
  13. Nueva Vizcaya;
  14. the rest of Aurora;
  15. Nueva Ecija;
  16. the eastern portion of Pampanga (Candaba);
  17. the eastern portion of Bulacan (Doña Remedios Trinidad, Norzagaray, City of San Jose del Monte, Obando, City of Meycauayan, Bocaue, Balagtas, Bustos, Baliuag, Pandi, Santa Maria, Marilao, Angat, San Rafael, San Ildefonso, San Miguel);
  18. Metro Manila;
  19. Rizal;
  20. Laguna;
  21. the eastern portion of Batangas (San Juan);
  22. the rest of Quezon;
  23. Marinduque;
  24. the rest of Camarines Sur;
  25. Albay;
  26. Sorsogon;
  27. Catanduanes; and
  28. the northern portion of Masbate (City of Masbate, Aroroy, Baleno) including Ticao and Burias Islands.


At 7 a.m., the center of Enteng was estimated to be located 100 kilometers north northwest of Daet, Camarines Norte or 115 km east northeast of Infanta, Quezon, moving northwestward at 15 km per hour, according to PAGASA.

The tropical storm was packing maximum sustained winds of 75 kph near the center with gustiness of up to 90 kph.

“From tomorrow early morning (3 September), ENTENG will generally turn west northwestward. Possible landfall over Babuyan Islands is also not ruled out,” PAGASA said.

“ENTENG is forecast to maintain tropical storm category until Tuesday and will intensify into a severe tropical storm by Wednesday. It may also reach a peak category of typhoon by Thursday or Friday. Further intensification over the Philippine Sea is still likely due to favorable conditions,” it added.

Effects

Classes in all levels in public and private schools and government work were suspended in the National Capital Region on Monday due to the bad weather caused by Enteng, Malacañang announced.

Some areas also suspended classes and government work on Monday.

A number of flights were also canceled on Monday due to the bad weather. —KG, GMA Integrated News
