Red rainfall warning up over Eastern Samar, 4 other provinces

Weather bureau PAGASA raised the red rainfall warning at 11 a.m. on Sunday over Eastern Samar, Samar, Biliran, Leyte, and parts of Cebu.

The affected areas in Cebu are Madridejos, Bantayan, Santa Fe, Daanbantayan, Medellin, San Remigio, Bogo City, Tabogon, Pilar, Tudela, Poro, San Francisco, Borbon, Tabuelan, Tuburan, Sogod, Asturias, Catmon, Carmen, Danao City.

Under PAGASA's rainfall warning system, a red rainfall warning means serious flooding may be expected in flood-prone areas.

This is the highest warning and areas under this warning are seeing 30 mm or more rainfall in an hour, which is expected to continue in the next two hours.

Residents in areas that have low elevation, such as coastal towns and cities are advised to evacuate immediately.

Meanwhile, the orange rainfall warning was raised at 11 a.m. over Southern Leyte and parts of Cebu (Compostela, Liloan, Consolacion, Lapu-Lapu City, Mandaue City, Cordova, Cebu City, Balamban, Toledo City, Talisay City, Minglanilla, Naga City, Pinamungahan, San Fernando, Aloguinsan, Carcar).

This means flooding is threatening in low-lying areas and landslides may occur in mountainous areas.

A yellow rainfall warning on the other hand was also hoisted at 11 a.m over Negros Oriental, Siquijor, Bohol, and parts of Cebu (Sibonga, Santander, Samboan, Ronda, Oslob, Moalboal, Malabuyoc, Ginatilan, Dumanjug, Danao Lake, Dalaguete, Boljoon, Barili, Badian, Argao, Alegria, Alcoy, Alcantara).

Flooding is possible in low-lying areas and landslides in mountainous areas, PAGASA said.

PAGASA raised the above-mentioned rainfall warnings due to rains from Tropical Depression Enteng and the Southwest Monsoon.

It advised the public and disaster risk reduction and management councils concerned to take appropriate actions, monitor the weather condition, and await the next advisory to be issued at 2 p.m.

Meanwhile, a yellow rainfall warning was also issued at 11 a.m. for Dumaran, Araceli, Roxas, and San Vicente in Palawan due to the Southwest Monsoon.

With this, the above-mentioned areas may possibly experience flooding and have landslides.
