Habagat to bring rains over western parts of S. Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao

The Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) is affecting the western parts of Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao on Sunday and will bring rains over several areas, PAGASA said in its forecast.

Mimaropa, Western Visayas, Negros Island Region, Zamboanga Peninsula, Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi may expect cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the Southwest Monsoon. Moderate to at times heavy rains may result in flash floods or landslides.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country on the other hand will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms. During severe thunderstorms, flash floods or landslides may possibly result.

PAGASA is also monitoring a tropical cyclone outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility, Typhoon Shanshan.

As of 3 a.m. on Sunday, Shanshan was estimated to be located at 1,980 km east northeast of Extreme Northern Luzon.

It has maximum sustained winds of 120 km/h near the center, and gustiness of up to 150 km/h.

Shanshan is moving north northwestward at 20 km/h.

"Ayon sa ating analysis, hindi natin nakikita na papasok sa Philippine Area of Responsibility and walang direct effect ito sa ating bansa," PAGASA weather specialist Grace Castañeda said in an interview on Super Radyo dzBB on Sunday.

(According to our analysis, we do not expect Shanshan to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility. It also has no direct effect on our country.)

Coastal waters will be slight to moderate throughout the country.
