Tropical cyclone outside PAR moving toward Japan

Severe Tropical Storm Ampil is moving further away from the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), while the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) is affecting Northern Luzon.

At 3 p.m. Wednesday, Ampil was spotted 2,045 kilometers east northeast of Extreme Northern Luzon, with maximum sustained winds of 110 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 135 km/h, PAGASA said.

Ampil was moving at 20 km/h, heading north northeast, and was predicted to reach eastern Japan, according to PAGASA.

Meanwhile, the Southwest Monsoon will cause cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over the Ilocos Region, Batanes, and Babuyan Islands, and partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms over the Cordillera Administrative Region and the rest of Cagayan Valley.

The rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms.

Flash floods or landslides may occur as a result of these weather conditions.

The Philippines will experience light to moderate winds with slight to moderate coastal waters.

Sunrise in Metro Manila will be at 5:42 a.m. on Thursday.  —Jiselle Anne Casucian/VBL, GMA Integrated News
