Southwest Monsoon to bring rains over parts of Luzon

The Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) will bring rains over parts of Luzon on Monday, PAGASA said in its weather forecast.

The Ilocos Region, Benguet, Abra, Zambales, and Bataan will have cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the monsoon. Flash floods or landslides may result due to moderate to at times heavy rains.

Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, the rest of Cordillera Administrative Region, and the rest of Central Luzon may expect partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms due to the monsoon. During severe thundertsorms, flash floods or landslides may result.

The rest of the country meanwhile will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms. During severe thunderstorms, flash floods or landslides may occur.

PAGASA is also monitoring a low pressure area (LPA) located northeast of Cagayan.

At 3 a.m., the LPA was estimated to be located at 220 km northeast of Aparri, Cagayan.

"In the next 24 hours, mababa ang tsansa na maging ganap na bagyo ito," PAGASA weather specialist Veronica Torres said in an interview on Unang Balita on Monday.

(In the next 24 hours, the chance of the LPA developing into a tropical depression is low.)

Torres said the LPA is slightly enhancing the Southwest Monsoon.

Meanwhile, coastal waters will be slight to moderate in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
