LPA, Southwest Monsoon to bring rains over parts of PH

A low pressure area (LPA) east of Northern Samar and the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) are affecting the country on Sunday and will bring rains over some areas, PAGASA said in its forecast.

Eastern Visayas, Bicol Region, and Quezon will have cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the LPA. Moderate to at times heavy rains may possibly lead to flash floods or landslides.

At 3 a.m., the LPA was estimated to be located at 440 km east of Catarman, Northern Samar.

"Maliit na ang tsansa na maging bagyo ang binabantayang LPA sa susunod na 24 oras," PAGASA weather specialist Dan Villamil said in an interview on Super Radyo dzBB.

(There is a low chance the LPA we are monitoring will intensify into a tropical depression in the next 24 hours.)

The Southwest Monsoon affecting the western section of Luzon meanwhile will bring cloudy skies, scattered rains and thunderstorms over Ilocos Region, Zambales, and Bataan. Flash floods or landslides may result due to moderate to at times heavy rains.

Metro Manila, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Occidental Mindoro, and Palawan may expect partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms. During severe thunderstorms, flash floods or landslides may result.

The rest of the country on the other hand may have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms. During severe thunderstorms, flash floods or landslides may result.

Coastal waters will be slight to moderate throughout the country.
