Southwest Monsoon, LPA trough to bring rains over several areas

The Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) and trough or extension of a low pressure area (LPA) will bring rains over several areas on Saturday, PAGASA said in its weather forecast.

Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Zambales, and Bataan will have cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the Southwest Monsoon affecting Luzon and Visayas. Moderate to at times heavy rains may possibly result in flash floods or landslides.

Davao Oriental, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, Dinagat Islands, Leyte, Southern Leyte, and Eastern Samar may expect cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the trough of the LPA. PAGASA said flash floods or landslides may result due to moderate to at times heavy rains.

At 3 a.m., the LPA was estimated to be located at 1,035 km east of southeastern Mindanao.

PAGASA said the chance of the LPA becoming a tropical depression is low.

Metro Manila, the rest of Visayas, and the rest of Luzon will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the monsoon. During severe thunderstorms, flash floods or landslides may result.

The rest of Mindanao on the other hand will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms. The weather bureau said flash floods or landslides may be possible during severe thunderstorms.

Coastal waters will be rough in the northern and western sections of Luzon, and moderate to rough in Visayas and the rest of Luzon.

In Mindanao, coastal waters will be slight to moderate.
