LPA spotted east of Mindanao as Carina leaves

State weather forecasters are monitoring a low pressure area off Mindanao as Typhoon Carina exits the Philippine Area of Responsibility.

At 3 p.m., the LPA was located 985 kilometers east of southeastern Mindanao, according to PAGASA's 24-hour weather forecast issued at 4 p.m. Thursday.

The weather disturbance has yet to affect any part of the country.

Meanwhile, Batanes will experience rains and gusty winds due to Carina, which left PAR on Thursday morning as it hit Taiwan.

Monsoon rains will prevail over Ilocos Region, Abra, Apayao, Benguet, Zambales, and Bataan, and occasional rains will occur in Metro Manila, Pampanga, Bulacan, Cavite, Batangas, and Occidental Mindoro.

The Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) will also bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over the rest of Luzon and partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms over the rest of the country.

Flash floods or landslides may occur.

Strong winds and moderate to rough coastal waters are expected in the northern and western sections of Luzon, as well as moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough coastal waters for the rest of the Philippines.

Sunrise in Metro Manila will be at 5:38 a.m. on Friday. —VBL, GMA Integrated News
