Carina exits PAR but continues to enhance Habagat


Typhoon Carina has left the Philippine Area of Responsibility

Typhoon Carina has left the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Thursday morning, according to state weather bureau PAGASA.

“Sa kasalukuyan, itong si Carina ay lumabas na nga ng  Philippine Area of Responsibility ngayong 6:20 ng umaga po,” PAGASA weather specialist Veronica Torres told Unang Balita in an interview.

(Carina has left the Philippine Area of Responsibility this morning at 6:20 a.m.)

However, Torres said Carina will continue to enhance the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat that will bring moderate to intense rains over the western section of Luzon.

In Metro Manila, moderate to heavy rains are also still expected.

The effects of Carina and Habagat continued to be felt on Wednesday as livelihoods, homes, and transportation were disrupted in different parts of the

Floods, swollen rivers, landslides, and soil erosion, among others, were reported in different areas.

Over 880,000 people have been affected by the impact of the weather disturbances as of Wednesday, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).

Damage to agriculture worth P9,706,852 was also reported.

Several airports and seaports have suspended some activities or entire operations due to the bad weather.

Classes and work schedules in some affected areas have been suspended.

Search, rescue, and retrieval operations were conducted to save victims who were trapped in floods and landslides. —VAL, GMA Integrated News.
