Danger level heat index possible in 28 areas on June 15

Twenty-eight areas of the country will see the heat index hit the danger level on Saturday, PAGASA said in its forecast on Friday afternoon.

These 28 areas are the following:

Baguio City is expected to experience the lowest heat index at 26°C.

Heat index is the measure of the temperature that a person feels, which is different from the actual air temperature. It is computed by factoring in the humidity and the air temperature.

PAGASA categorizes areas with 42°C to 51°C heat index under the danger category, while areas with a heat index of 52°C and above fall under extreme danger.

PAGASA said heat cramps and heat exhaustion are likely in areas experiencing a danger level heat index. Heat stroke is also possible with continued exposure.

The public was advised to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activity, and wear fresh clothes to avoid heat-related illnesses. —VBL, GMA Integrated News
