PH highest heat index recorded while Aghon still in PAR
The highest heat index since the start of the dry season in March was recorded on Sunday and Tuesday in Guiuan, Eastern Samar just as tropical cyclone Aghon brought rain and stormy weather over parts of the country.
According to Raffy Tima's report on "24 Oras," the heat index reached the danger level that prompted Guiuan's Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council to issue an advisory regarding the extreme heat while Aghon is still in the Philippine area of responsibility.
Why was the highest heat index recorded while the typhoon was still inside the PAR?
Pag lumagpas yung bagyo nagki clear yung sky kasi parang naka concentrate yung cloud formation around doon sa periphery ng bagyo,” PAGASA weather specialist Joey Figuracion said.
(The sky cleared when the typhoon passed because the cloud formation seemed to be concentrated around the typhoon.)
“After that, pag nagkaroon ng clear skies at direct na yung sunlight. Kaya mainit, oo kaya mainit,” he added.
(After that, if the sky clears and there is direct sunlight, it is hot.)
According to PAGASA's latest bulletin, Aghon is expected to exit the PAR on Wednesday.
Amid the extreme danger heat index, the Guiuan local government advised residents to be careful and avoid spending too much time under the sun.
Despite no reported casualties so far, the Guiuan Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) advised residents to be cautious.
“Pati yung mga high blood inaadvise naman namin lalo na yung vulnerable sectors na huwag na munang mag ano sa init lalo na between 10 o’clock hanggang 4 o’clock,” Asst. MDRRMO Ryan Sabulao said.
(We also advised those who have high blood, especially those in the vulnerable sectors to avoid spending too much time under the sunlight, especially between 10 o’clock and 4 o’clock.)
PAGASA said despite occasional rainfall, it is still normal to feel extreme heat in the Philippines, mainly because it is a tropical country.
But cooler weather may be experienced because the wet season is expected to begin next month.
“Six out of 13 stations na mino monitor natin ay nakakapagtala na ng tuloy tuloy na pag ulan so name meet na yung criteria,” Figuracion said.
