Trough of LPA to bring rainy skies over parts of Mindanao

The trough of a low-pressure area is affecting Mindanao, while the northeast monsoon is affecting parts of Luzon and Visayas, state weather bureau PAGASA said Tuesday.

According to PAGASA’s daily weather forecast at 4 p.m., the trough of LPA will bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Northern Mindanao, SOCCSKSARGEN, Caraga, Davao Region, and Southern Leyte.

Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms will be felt over the rest of Mindanao due to the combined effects of the trough of LPA and localized thunderstorms.

PAGASA’s weather advisory at 11 a.m. on Tuesday also predicted significant amounts of rainfall over the following areas within the next 3 days due to the trough of LPA:

January 30

• 50 to 100 mm: Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Davao City, Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Davao Occidental, Misamis Oriental, and Bukidnon
• 100 to 200 mm: Davao de Oro, Davao Oriental, and Surigao del Sur       

January 31

• 50 to 100 mm: Misamis Oriental and Bukidnon
• 100 to 200 mm: Caraga and Davao Region

February 1

• 50 to 100 mm: Caraga and Davao Region

Flooding and rain-induced landslides, especially in hazardous areas, may be possible over the course of the next few days.

Public disaster risk reduction management offices have also been advised to prepare the necessary precautions as needed.

The northeast monsoon will also cause cloudy skies with light rains over Cagayan Valley, Aurora, and Quezon, and partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains over Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon and Visayas.

Meanwhile, Southern Luzon, Visayas, and the northern and eastern sections of Mindanao will have strong winds with rough seas, while the rest of the country is forecast to have moderate to strong winds with moderate to rough coastal waters.
