PAGASA releases Philippine tropical cyclone names in 2024

The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services (PAGASA) on Tuesday released the names that will be assigned to tropical cyclones that will enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) in 2024.
 

The first tropical cyclone this year will be named Aghon followedin alphabetic order by:

• Butchoy
• Carina
• Dindo
• Enteng
• Ferdie
• Gener
• Helen
• Igme
• Julian
• Kristine
• Leon
• Marce
• Nika
• Ofel
• Pepito
• Querubin
• Romina
• Siony
• Tonyo
• Upang
• Vicky
• Warren
• Yoyong
• Zosimo

The names are re-used every four years, excluding those of tropical cyclones that have a severe impact and cause considerable damage to the country.

The 2024 set will also be used in 2028, 2032, and 2036, or every four years.

Meanwhile, the state weather bureau also prepared auxiliary names in case there are more than 25 tropical cyclones that would enter PAR for 2024:

• Baldo
• Claro
• Dencio
• Estong
• Felipe
• Gomer
• Heling
• Ismael
• Julio
