Low pressure area enters PAR
State weather bureau PAGASA on Saturday reported that a low pressure area (LPA) has entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), threatening to bring rains over parts of Visayas and Mindanao.
According to PAGASA's 11 a.m. weather advisory, the combined effects of the LPA and a shear line "may bring significant amount of rains" in the next 24 hours.
Some 50 to 100 mm. of rainfall was expected on Sunday and Monday over Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Northern Mindanao, and Caraga.
"Under these conditions, flooding and rain-induced landslides are possible" especially in areas that are prone to such hazards, PAGASA said in its weather advisory on the LPA and shear line.
Based on its 3 p.m. daily public weather forecast, PAGASA said the LPA was spotted 925 kms. east of southeastern Mindanao.
Amihan, easterlies
The Northeast Monsoon (Amihan), meanwhile, was expected to affect parts of Northern Luzon, bringing cloudy skies with light rains over Batanes and Babauyan Islands. Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, the rest of Cagayan Valley, and Central Luzon were forecast to have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains.
Easterlies and localized thunderstorms were predicted to bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms over Metro Manila and the rest of the country. PAGASA warned that flash floods or landslides may occur in these areas during severe thunderstorms.
PAGASA also expected extreme northern Luzon to experience strong winds and rough waters, while the eastern section of the country would have moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough waters.
Light to moderate winds and slight to moderate waters were predicted over the rest of the country.
