PAGASA: Tropical depression may enter PAR this week

A tropical depression (TD) that developed outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) may enter by late Wednesday or Thursday.

State weather bureau PAGASA on Monday said the TD will be given the local name “Kabayan” once it enters the country’s responsibility.

“Posibleng pumasok ang bagyo sa ating PAR by late Wednesday o di kaya by Thursday. ‘Pag pumasok ito ng PAR, bibigyan natin ito ng local name na ‘Kabayan’,” said PAGASA Weather Specialist Veronica Torres.

(The tropical cyclone may enter PAR by late Wednesday or Thursday and will be assigned the local name ‘Kabayan’.)

As of 3 p.m., PAGASA said the tropical cyclone was seen 1,465 kilometers east northeastern Mindanao, outside PAR. It is moving northwestward at 15 kilometers per hour (km/h) while packing maximum sustained winds of 45 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 55 km/h.

However, it still has no effect on the country on Monday.

Meanwhile, the state weather bureau said the shear line affecting Southern Luzon may bring cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms over Bicol Region, Quezon, and Eastern Visayas.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country may experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms due to the combined effects of the shear line and the localized thunderstorms.

The northeast monsoon (Amihan) may cast cloudy skies with rains in Cagayan Valley, Ilocos Norte, Apayao, Abra, and Oriental Mindoro and partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains over the rest of Ilocos Region, the rest of Central Luzon, and the rest of Cordillera Administrative Region.

PAGASA warned against the possible rain-induced flash floods or landslides in the affected areas due to inclement weather.

Moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough coastal water conditions will be experienced over northern Luzon while the rest of the country will have light to moderate winds and slight to moderate waters.

The sun will rise over Metro Manila on Tuesday at 5:56.—Sundy Locus/LDF, GMA Integrated News
