Typhoon Jenny leaves Philippine area of responsibility

Typhoon Jenny has left the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), but Itbayat, Batanes has remained under Signal No. 2, PAGASA said Thursday.

According to the tropical cyclone bulletin for 4 p.m., Jenny had maximum sustained winds of 140 kph near the center, gustiness of up to 170 kph, and central pressure of 955 hPa.

The center of the eye of Typhoon Jenny was estimated at 275 km west northwest of Itbayat, Batanes while moving westward at 15 kph.

Signal No. 1 is still up over the following areas:

  • The rest of Batanes,
  • Babuyan Islands
  • northern portion of Apayao (Calanasan, Luna)

The northwestern portion of Cagayan (Pamplona, Sanchez-Mira, Claveria, Santa Praxedes, Abulug)

The northern portion of Ilocos Norte (Pagudpud, Adams, Dumalneg, Bangui, Burgos, Pasuquin, Vintar)

PAGASA said Jenny would continue to enhance the Southwest Monsoon and bring light to moderate rains over the western portions of Luzon.

It will bring gusty conditions for the next three days over the following areas, not under any Wind Signal.

  • The southern portion of Aurora,
  • Romblon, and
  • portions of CALABARZON, Metro Manila, Bataan, and Bicol Region

"Outside the PAR region, Jenny will continue to move westward (becoming west-southwestward to southwestward by Sunday) slowly over the Taiwan Strait and the coastal waters of southeastern China," it said.

Once it reaches Taiwan Strait, additional cool dry air from the north will entrain into Jenny and will result in continued weakening.

Typhoon Jenny may become a tropical depression by late Sunday, the state weather bureau added. —NB,GMA Integrated News
