Typhoon Jenny, enhanced Habagat to bring rains over parts of Luzon, Visayas

Typhoon Jenny will continue to enhance the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) and bring rains over Central Luzon, Southern Luzon and Visayas in the next three days, PAGASA said in its latest forecast.

In its 5 p.m. bulletin, the state weather bureau said Batanes remains under Signal No. 2, while Signal No. 1 is hoisted in parts of six provinces in Luzon:

  • Cagayan including Babuyan Islands
  • the northern and eastern portions of Isabela (Maconacon, Divilacan, Palanan, Santa Maria, San Pablo, Tumauini, Cabagan, Ilagan City, San Mariano, Santo Tomas, Dinapigue, Benito Soliven, Naguilian, Gamu, Quirino, Delfin Albano, Quezon, Mallig)
  • Apayao
  • the northeastern portion of Abra (Tineg, Lacub, Malibcong)
  • the northern portion of Kalinga (Balbalan, Pinukpuk, Rizal, City of Tabuk)
  • Ilocos Norte

Jenny was estimated at 325 km East Northeast of Basco, Batanes (21.4 °N, 124.9 °E ). It is moving North Northwestward at 10 km/h with maximum sustained winds of 155 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 190 km/h.

"The enhancement of the Southwest Monsoon by Jenny will bring gusty conditions for the next three days over the following areas not under any Wind Signal, especially in coastal and upland/mountainous areas exposed to winds," PAGASA said.

  • Tuesday: Aurora, Bataan, Bulacan, Metro Manila, CALABARZON, Bicol Region, and most of MIMAROPA and Western Visayas
  • Wednesday: Bataan, the southern portion of Aurora, Metro Manila, CALABARZON, Romblon, and most of Bicol Region
  • Thursday: Romblon and portions of CALABARZON and Bicol Region

Meanwhile, a gale warning is in effect for the coastal waters along the seaboards of Northern Luzon.

"Jenny will bring moderate to rough seas (1.5 to 3.5 m) over the coastal waters of northern Aurora. Mariners of motor bancas and similarly-sized vessels are advised to take precautionary measures," PAGASA said.

Track and Intensity Outlook

PAGASA added that Jenny may continue moving northwestward or west northwestward until Tuesday before turning generally westward thereafter.

Jenny is forecast to make landfall over the southern portion of Taiwan between late evening on Wednesday or Thursday morning then exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) between Thursday morning and afternoon.—LDF, GMA Integrated News
