LPA spotted near Batanes; Habagat to bring rains over South Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao

A low pressure area (LPA) was spotted near Batanes on Tuesday morning, PAGASA said, but it is the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat that will bring rain showers over parts of the country.

At 3 a.m. the LPA was estimated to be located at 790 kilometers east northeast of Basco, Batanes (21.9°N, 129.4°E).

The Southwest Monsoon or Habagat will bring cloudy skies and rain showers over Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, PAGASA reported.

Batanes and Cagayan will have cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the trough of the LPA. Flash floods or landslides may occur in these provinces due to moderate to at times heavy rains.

The Bicol Region, Mimaropa, Western Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, BARMM, and Northern Samar will have cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the monsoon with flash floods or landslides possibly occurring due to moderate to at times heavy rains.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the monsoon and localized thunderstorms with flash floods or landslides possibly occurring during severe thunderstorms.

The wind speed forecast for Northern Luzon is light to moderate moving in the southwest to northwest direction with slight to moderate coastal waters.

The rest of the country will experience light to moderate wind speed moving in the southwest to west direction while coastal waters will be slight to moderate.

Sunrise will be at 5:45 a.m., sunset by 6:00 p.m. — BAP/KG, GMA Integrated News
