PAGASA explains recent haze in Metro Manila, other provinces

A haze has been observed in Metro Manila and other provinces in Central Luzon and CALABARZON recently.

In Katrina Son's report on "24 Oras Weekend," Sunday, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said that haze is formed with differences in air temperature.

"'Yung ating hangin is mas mainit po sa ibabaw kumpara sa nasa ilalim. Kasi 'yung ating hangin dapat habang tumataas tayo sa atmosphere mas lumalamig 'di ba, parang sa mga bundok mas malamig, sa malapit sa surface mainit," said weather specialist Benison Estareja.

"['Yung haze] kabaligtaran—malamig sa ilalim, mainit sa itaas."

According to PAGASA, a haze usually lasts for several days.

The government agency recommended the public to wear masks in times of haze.

"Lalo na kapag meron tayong mga respiratory problems, lagi tayong mag-mask saka iwasan muna lumabas ng bahay," Estareja said.

"Doon sa mga walang respiratory problems, just maging observant lang tayo and make sure na may dala tayong mask in case."
