PAGASA: LPA inside PAR may strengthen into storm in next 24 hours

A low-pressure area (LPA) inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) may develop into a tropical depression within 24 hours, PAGASA said.

According to PAGASA, if the LPA does develop into a storm, it will be given the name Ineng and would be the ninth tropical cyclone to enter PAR this year.

“Base sa ating ating analysis, posible itong maging tropical depression o mahinang bagyo sa susunod na 24 oras. Kung sakaling maging bagyo, papangalanan natin itong Ineng. Pang-siyam na bagyo o unang bagyo pa lamang for the month of September,” said PAGASA weather specialist Benison Estareja in the state weather bureau's public weather forecast on Monday afternoon.

The LPA was last seen 870 kilometers east of extreme northern Luzon as of 3 p.m.

Meanwhile, the LPA and the trough of Severe Tropical Storm Haikui (formerly Hanna), which is now outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), continue to enhance the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) to bring rains over a large swath of the country.

The enhanced Habagat is expected to spur monsoon rains over Zambales, Bataan, and Occidental Mindoro and occasional rains in Metro Manila, the rest of Ilocos Region, Apayao, Abra, Benguet, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bulacan, Rizal, Cavite, and Batangas.

The rest of Luzon may experience cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms while partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms are forecast over the rest of the country due to the habagat and the localized thunderstorms.

Cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms are expected in Batanes due to the trough of Haikui while cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms are likewise forecast over Cagayan and Isabela due to the trough of the LPA.

PAGASA warned against rain-induced flash floods and landslides in the affected areas.

Forecast winds

Strong winds and moderate to rough waters are expected in the seaboards of Visayas and the rest of Luzon. Moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough waters are forecast in the seaboards of Mindanao.
