Signal No. 1 in 2 areas as Typhoon Hanna seen to leave PAR within 6 hours
Typhoon Hanna (international name: Haikui) on Sunday evening emerged over the Taiwan Strait and is about to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), but two areas remain under Storm Signal No. 1, PAGASA said Sunday evening.
In its Tropical Cyclone Bulletin issued at 11 p.m., the state weather bureau said Hanna was last spotted 270 kilometers northwest of Itbayat, Batanes moving westward at 25 kilometers per hour (kph) with maximum sustained winds of 130 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 160 kph.
It is forecast to exit the PAR region within six hours and be 365 kilometers northwest of Itbayat, Batanes at 8 a.m. on Monday, September 4, 2023.
Signal No. 1
Batanes and the northern portion of the Babuyan Islands (Babuyan, Calayan, and Dalupiri Islands) remain under Signal No. 1, indicating that winds of 39 to 61 kph or intermittent rains may be expected within 36 hours.
Enhanced by Hanna, the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat is expected to continue to bring gusty conditions over the following areas on Monday, though they are not under any wind signals: Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Nueva Vizcaya, southern Aurora, Zambales, Bataan, Bulacan, Metro Manila, Occidental Mindoro, Romblon, Marinduque, northern Palawan including Calamian, Kalayaan, and Cuyo Islands, and most of CALABARZON, Bicol Region, and Western Visayas.
A gale warning has also been issued for the northern, western, and southern seaboards of Luzon, and the western seaboard of Visayas, with civilian maritime activities expected to be disrupted in the areas.
“From tonight to Tuesday morning, the typhoon will gradually move west-northwestward over the Taiwan Strait while weakening and make landfall over the coast of Guangdong or Fujian, China on Tuesday morning as a severe tropical storm,” PAGASA said.
Hanna is then projected to ensue as it moves further inland over Guangdong, China, and become a remnant low on Thursday. — Jon Viktor D. Cabuenas/BM, GMA Integrated News
