Signal No. 5 up over Babuyan Islands due to Egay


Super Typhoon Egay has maintained its strength and continues to threaten Northern Luzon, the weather bureau PAGASA said on Tuesday night.

According to its tropical cyclone bulletin issued at 8 p.m., Signal No. 5 remains hoisted over the Babuyan Islands, where extreme impact from typhoon-force winds may be experienced.

Heavy rains of over 200 millimeters are expected to accumulate from Tuesday to Wednesday afternoon in northern Cagayan including the Babuyan Islands, Batanes, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Apayao, and Abra.

The following areas are under storm signals.

  • The northern portion of Cagayan (Santa Ana, Gonzaga, Claveria, Sanchez-Mira, Pamplona, Abulug, Ballesteros, Aparri, Buguey, Santa Teresita, Camalaniugan, Santa Praxedes)

Signal No. 3

  • The northeastern portion of Isabela (Divilacan, Maconacon, Palanan, Santa Maria, San Pablo, Santo Tomas, Cabagan, Tumauini)
  • The rest of Cagayan
  • Apayao, Ilocos Norte
  • Northern portion of Kalinga (Rizal, Pinukpuk, Balbalan)
  • Batanes
  • Northern portion of Abra (Tineg, Lagayan, Lacub, Danglas)

The eye of the storm was last seen 135 kilometers East Northeast of Aparri, Cagayan   while Egay moves northwestward at 15 kilometers per hour.

The super typhoon is predicted to weaken within the next 12 hours as begins to interact with Northern Luzon and Taiwan.

Egay is predicted to leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Thursday morning. —NB, GMA Integrated News
