Dodong seen to cause heavy rain in Cagayan, nearby provinces


Heavy rains are expected in eight provinces in the northern part of Luzon as Dodong accelerated westward on Friday afternoon.

According to the tropical cyclone bulletin issued at 5 p.m., rainfall of 50 mm to 100 mm is expected Cagayan, Apayao, Kalinga, Abra, Benguet, Ilocos Norte, La Union, and Pangasinan.

PAGASA's weather advisory issued at 11 a.m. said the southwest monsoon enhanced by Dodong is expected to result in 50 mm to 100 mm of rains on Friday in Zambales, Bataan, Occidental Mindoro, and the northern portions of Palawan, including Calamian, Cuyo, and Kalayaan Islands.

The same amount of rain is epected to fall on Saturday in Occidental Mindoro, Zambales, Bataan, and Antique.

Minimal to minor impacts from strong winds  are also possible within any of the areas where Wind Signal No.1 is currently in effect.

These are:

  • Cagayan including Babuyan Islands,
  • Apayao,
  • Ilocos Norte, Abra,
  • Ilocos Sur,
  • Mountain Province,
  • Kalinga and the northern portion of Isabela (Mallig, Quezon, Santa Maria, Cabagan, Delfin Albano, Tumauini, Santo Tomas, San Pablo, Maconacon)

Metro Manila, Cavite, Batangas, Pampanga, Bulacan, and Western Visayas will have occasional rains brought by the Southwest Monsoon.

Central Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, and the rest of Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, Central Luzon, and CALABARZON will have cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms.

The rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the Southwest Monsoon and localized thunderstorms.

PAGASA warned of possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to at times, heavy rains is expected in the areas mentioned.

The wind speed in Luzon and the eastern section of Visayas will be moderate to rough moving southwest to southeast direction while the coastal waters will be moderate.

The rest of the Visayas and Mindanao will have light to moderate wind speed moving Southwest direction, and coastal waters will be moderate.

The sun will set over Metro Manila at 6:29 p.m. today.

Effects, preparations Dodong

Meanwhile, several areas in Luzon are bracing for the possible onslaught of Dodong.

On Friday, the Quezon City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (QCDRRMO) said it is ready to respond to any disaster that Dodong may cause.

It is said that their protocol has been laid out as they continue to monitor the weather and situation of each area in the city.

Evacuation sites have been identified, and the equipment and personnel are also considered sufficient.

In Kapatagan, Lanao del Norte, the water almost overflowed a bridge wherein residents near the river prepared to evacuate after the orange warning was raised on Thursday.

Heavy rains and strong winds are also being experienced in Rizal, Palawan, where a part of the Marine Aviation Support Activity or MASA 2023 will be held on Saturday.

The Philippine Marine and Palawan Provincial Government have distributed aid to the families of fishermen who will be affected by the implementation of the no-sail zone during the military exercises. —NB, GMA Integrated News
