LPA east of Eastern Visayas now a tropical depression named Chedeng, says PAGASA

The low pressure area (LPA) being monitored east of Eastern Visayas has developed into a tropical depression on Tuesday morning, state weather bureau PAGASA said.

In a Facebook post, PAGASA said the tropical depression will be named "Chedeng."

"At 8:00 AM today, the Low Pressure Area east of Eastern Visayas developed into Tropical Depression #ChedengPH," PAGASA said.

Interviewed on Super Radyo dzBB, PAGASA’s Veronica Torres said Chedeng was located 970 kilometers east of Eastern Visayas at 3 a.m.

Chedeng is seen traversing a similar track to Typhoon Betty, according to Torres.

She also added that an enhanced Southwest Monsoon is expected in the western part of the country and Central Luzon.

PAGASA said it will issue Tropical Cyclone Bulletins starting 11 a.m. on Tuesday. —Joviland Rita/KBK/VAL, GMA Integrated News
