PAGASA: LPA inside PAR may develop into storm

A low-pressure area (LPA) inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) may develop into a storm, the state weather bureau PAGASA said Monday

According to a ”24 Oras” report, the LPA was last seen 1,000 kilometers east of the Eastern Visayas. It currently had no direct effect on the country, but it could  strengthen into a tropical depression that would be called “Chedeng.”

The weather bureau was also monitoring an LPA outside of the western portion of the PAR. The weather system did not affect the country but was pulling the prevailing southwest monsoon (Habagat).

PAGASA said 11 to 14 typhoons were expected to hit the country this year. Of these, one or two were forecast to develop or enter PAR this month, which may affect the Eastern Visayas or Bicol Region. — Sundy Locus/DVM, GMA Integrated News
