Paeng keeps strength as it moves over San Pablo, Laguna


Severe Tropical Storm Paeng has maintained its strength while moving over San Pablo City, Laguna, PAGASA said on Saturday afternoon.

At 4 p.m., Paeng was spotted in the vicinity of San Pablo, carrying maximum sustained winds of 95 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 160 km/h, the weather bureau said in its 5 p.m. bulletin.

It was moving northwestward at 20 km/h.

PAGASA also said Paeng made landfall in Sariaya, Quezon at 1:40 p.m.

Heavy to intense with at times torrential rains are expected over Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Marinduque, Romblon, Mindoro Provinces, and the northern portion of Palawan, including Calamian and Cuyo Islands for the rest of Saturday. 

Moderate to heavy with at times intense rains will prevail over Camarines Provinces, mainland Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, Western Visayas, and Central Luzon while to light to moderate with, at times heavy rains are possible over the rest of Luzon and Visayas.

On Sunday, moderate to heavy with at times intense rains are likely over Zambales, Bataan, and Ilocos Region.

Metro Manila, Cordillera Administrative Region, Mimaropa, the rest of Calabarzon, and the rest of Central Luzon will experience light to moderate with at times heavy rains.

The tropical cyclone is forecast to track west northwestward through Sunday morning.

“On the forecast track, the center of Paeng will traverse the Cavite-Batangas area, then will cross the southern portion of Bataan. Paeng may maintain its strength while traversing the Luzon landmass and further intensification is likely once it emerges over the West Philippine Sea,” PAGASA said. — VBL, GMA News
