Nanmadol may enter PAR Friday, reach super typhoon category within 24 hours
Typhoon Nanmadol, which is seen to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Friday afternoon, may reach super typhoon category within 24 hours, PAGASA said.
In its 11 a.m. bulletin, PAGASA, however, said Nanmadol is expected to remain far from Philippine landmass and will not directly affect the weather condition in the country.
To be named Josie once it enters PAR, Nanmadol is expected to exit PAR on Friday night or early Saturday morning.
According to PAGASA, the southwest monsoon or Habagat enhanced by Nanmadol will bring rains over the western sections of Southern Luzon and Visayas in the next 24 hours.
The Nanmadol-enhanced Habagat may also bring gusty conditions reaching strong to gale-force strength -- especially in coastal and mountainous or upland areas -- over Visayas, MIMAROPA, Bicol Region, and the northern and western portions of Mindanao.
Nanmadol is forecast to move generally west northwestward on Friday before turning northwestward to north northwestward for the rest of the remaining forecast.
As of 10 a.m., the center of the eye of Nanmadol was estimated based on all available data at 1,465 km east northeast of extreme Northern Luzon outside PAR.
Moving west northwestward at 10 km/h, Nanmadol has maximum sustained winds of 165 km/h near the center, gustiness of up to 205 km/h, and central pressure of 945 hPa. —Jamil Santos/KBK, GMA News
