Caloy moves slowly towards West Philippine Sea, enhances Habagat
Tropical Depression Caloy continues to move slowly over the West Philippine Sea on Wednesday and will enhance the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat), PAGASA reported.
At 3 a.m. on Wednesday, the center of Tropical Depression Caloy was estimated at 395 kilometers west of Iba, Zambales with maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 55 km/h and moving westward slowly, PAGASA reported.
In the next 24 hours, the monsoon trough and the southwest monsoon enhanced by Caloy will bring monsoon rains over the western sections of Luzon and Visayas.
Bataan, Zambales, Palawan, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Aurora and Quezon will have monsoon rains brought about by the monsoon trough and the southwest monsoon with possible flash floods or landslides due to scattered to widespread moderate to at times heavy rains.
Metro Manila, the rest of Luzon, Visayas, and Zamboanga Peninsula will have cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the monsoon trough and southwest monsoon with possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to at times heavy rains.
The rest of Mindanao will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the southwest monsoon with possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.
No tropical cyclone wind signal is currently hoisted for this tropical cyclone.
June 30 weather
It will be rainy on Thursday, June 30, during President-elect Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos' inauguration, GMA resident meteorologist Nathaniel "Mang Tani" Cruz said in a report on Unang Balita.
"Maulan na panahon ang maaasahan natin bukas sa gitna po ng inauguration ni President-elect Bongbong Marcos, at 'yan ay dahil sa dalawang bagay: ang una ay ang Bagyong Caloy at ang hanging habagat na pinalalakas nito," Cruz said.
(We can expect rainy weather tomorrow during the inauguration of President-elect Bongbong Marcos, and that is due to two things: Tropical Depression Caloy and the Southwest Monsoon it is enhancing.)
Coastal waters
Meanwhile, on Wednesday, the northern and western sections of Luzon will experience moderate to strong wind speed and moving in the southwest to southeast direction while coastal waters will be moderate to strong.
The rest of the country will experience light to moderate wind speed moving in the southwest to southeast direction while coastal waters will be slight to moderate.
Sea conditions will be risky as the enhanced southwest monsoon will bring moderate to rough seas over the seaboards of northern Luzon and the western seaboards of Central and Southern Luzon.
Caloy is forecast to meander aimlessly today then move generally north northwestward or northwestward tomorrow, westward on Friday, turn northwestward towards southern China. The tropical depression may exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) within 24 hours.
